'How to make the most of your DSLR' or 'Night' workshops

I love sharing knowledge...

As well as being a freelance photographer, I also teach photography at The University of the Arts London. I am a fully qualified tutor, gaining a distinction in my PGC-HE and I am now a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I will provide a patient and friendly environment with a professional teaching delivery, so feel assured you will be getting a higher educational experience for an unbeatable price!

So come join me!

Take up the opportunity to spend half a day on a Saturday to learn more about your DSLR camera and how to make the most of it. Whilst also meeting like minded people. I have designed the 4 hour course for complete beginners, so you don't have to worry if you have never left automatic mode.

Ever wondered what all the shortened jargon means? What is AE Lock? How do I take a city scape at night? Why does ISO make my image noisy? What does ISO stand for? If you don't know any of the above then you must do my course!

Course content:

  • Exposure triangle
  • Mode dials
  • How to set and use manual mode
  • AE lock
  • Exposure compensation
  • Focus tracking
  • ND and polarising filters
  • Jpegs, raw and pixels
  • Optical versus digital zoom

The day starts with some theory, and then we will walk around interesting parts of London like the beautiful south bank to put everything into practice. Travel photography tips will be interspersed along the way to make sure you get the most out of your trips. For example the best hours to shoot, back lighting, colour temperature, lenses and focal length.

I also provide access to my photography text book that I created in ITunes U for post course support.

For a unique half day experience, this course is £125 per person.

If you want to come a long with a friend or a group it gets cheaper!

DSLR workshop

I signed up for the DSLR workshop as I felt I had some knowledge of photography but not enough to really get the best from what I was trying to do. The course teaches you the basics of shutter speed, aperture and ISO- and how all of them affect exposure, but I hadn't fully appreciated how they did this in different ways and how aperture affects depth of field (the convergence of light-who knew). Claudia is an excellent teacher and explains everything in a very clear and patient way. I found the exercises interesting and helped put the theory into practice, with ample opportunity to practice and experiment with the benefit of guidance. I'd definitely recommend this course to anyone with even a passing interest in photography, who wants to get the best out of their camera. It's also great value, so much cheaper than others I have found online!

'DSLR workshop -Brilliant!!'

Came here today (Saturday) for the 4 hour dslr workshop. Was by myself as was everyone else so doesn't matter if you don't come with like minded friends. I highly recommend this for beginners. I had been bought a digital compact camera for my birthday 3 weeks prior to the course so was TOTALLY new to photography. Claudia was brilliant and a very helpful and knowledgable teacher. We covered the basics for the first 60 mins, like ISO, aperture, shutter speed. We went outside and practiced exposure and depth of field.V helpful. Then we explored the streets with exposure compensation, focus tracking and AE lock, which i found fascinating.

I found this incredible value for money, not many places in london you can go and learn a new skill for 4 hours for this price. Would have happily have paid double this price without blinking. Totally worth the money. DO IT!

'DSLR Camera course well worth it!!'

I recently got a DSLR and wanted to understand how to get more use out of it without always having to shoot in auto or scene. Claudia ran the course and she was very knowledgeable and gave a really good overview of the theory in the first hour. We were told about the exposure triangle and how ISO/Aperture and shutter speed all correlate on all the different modes. The remainder of the course was mostly practical where we went and put the theory to the test. Claudia was great, very supportive and really helped the group get to grips with using all the different settings. She also offered post course support via an app to ensure we got the most out of everything we learned. This is definitely a great course to give you an initial overview on how to use a DSLR-highly recommend.

'Fabulous workshop!'

My husband and son (age 14) attended this workshop and are still raving about it. There is a classroom workshop element and then you go out and practice what you have learnt. My son now goes out early in the morning to take interesting pictures with his camera-it was a great inspiration for him and was pitched at just the right level. Thank you, I think you have changed his life.

'I really enjoyed digital camera workshop!!'

It was really cold (around 5 degrees) but the workshop was so engaging and enjoyable that I didn't feel it at all. It was good combination of theory, practical exercises and good tips how to make your pictures better quality and more creative. I would highly recommend.

'Thoroughly enjoyed the DSLR workshop and would recommend it to anyone as well worth going on'

A most enjoyable day spent learning all about the manual mode on my camera. Very informative in an informal manner. Lots of practical advice and plenty of opportunity to put this into practice. If you want to take more creative control over your photography, I would wholeheartedly recommend this workshop to you.

'Excellent photography course'

I've done a few photography courses before but this was by far the most enjoyable, interesting and useful. Very easy to understand and was able to put everything claudia taught us in practice straight away. I was the only member with a compact camera but it didn't matter, but could still take part and apply learnings. Look forward to using all my knowledge soon. Highly recommend, Claudia is a very patient and excellent teacher!
